Welcome Badgers!

Happy New Year Badgers! I hope you all had an amazing holiday season and are ready for the start of your 2026 university experience.

Whether you’re new to Brock or returning from your winter break, I wanted to take a moment to wish you the best for the semester ahead.

For those of you who are new to Brock, welcome! We at the Brock University Students Union (BUSU for short) are so happy to have you here and hope to make your Brock University experience one to remember. A quick note as to what BUSU does:

BUSU exists to represent, support, and enhance your student experience. That means:

  • Clubs: Over 140 student clubs to join, or the chance to start your own!

  • Services: Health and dental coverage, your UPass giving you unlimited transit across Niagara, legal and tax clinics, and food security initiatives.

  • Advocacy: We listen to your feedback and concerns, and work with local and provincial leaders to ensure students have a strong voice.

  • Community & fun: From major events like Badgerfest, to smaller activities like free food events, craft nights and ice skating, we’re here to help you make the most out of every moment you spend here at Brock.

Our Winter term welcome week is called Frost week, and it’s the coolest way to start the semester. We have events from vision board crafting to Sexy BINGO to pizza with politicians (back for the second time this academic year!). Frost Week is designed to help you start the semester feeling connected and supported. Whether you’re looking to meet new people, explore campus life, or simply take a break from coursework, there’s something for everyone. Plus, by attending events, you’ll have the chance to win exciting prizes, including a $200 Amazon gift card!

For those of you returning for another semester, congratulations for making it through last semester! Exams are tough, and the shorter days during that time of year don’t make it any easier. I know that this time of year can be difficult for students. The cold, wet St. Catharine’s winter combined with the pressures that come with university isn’t particularly a recipe for a good time – but BUSU is here to provide support and resources to help you thrive on campus.

I also want to remind you that there’s more to life than just school. Balance matters. Taking time to rest, connect with friends, or do something that brings you joy is an important part of the student experience. Whether that’s grabbing a hot drink with a friend, getting outside when the sun does come out, or attending a BUSU event, we care deeply about supporting your school/life balance and overall wellbeing.

Finally, I want to hear from you! I’ll be hosting office hours every Thursday from 12–1 pm in the BUSU office, and you’re always welcome to stop by (or send me an email whenever). Whether you want to share feedback, ask questions, pitch an idea, or just say hi, I’d love to connect and hear what’s important to you.

Wishing you a successful, balanced, and memorable Winter Term.

Kindly,

Fiona Seabrook, BUSU President
