Hi Badgers

I hope you are all doing well and had a fantastic summer! I am happy to share my September update with you all. September was one of the busier months for BUSU. We started the month off with BadgerFest, our Welcome Week festival.

To start the month, I had the opportunity to speak at the New Student Welcome Academic Orientation, where I talked about all the things BUSU provides for students, taking advantage of all the resources being offered and how to join BUSU if interested.

During BadgerFest I attended the Big Ticket Concert where MIGZ and MAX performed and introduced myself along with our president Aaliyah and Malak our Vice president of University Affairs. It was very exciting to see everyone at BadgerFest and participate with the vendors that attended. Due to it raining we weren’t able to have BrockTV’s movie night outside, but it was still a packed house in gym 2 at the Walker Sports Complex.

 I also had the opportunity to speak at the Welcome Live in Jubilee Court while incoming Badgers were moving into their various residences.

I’ve also had multiple meetings with OUSA this month to discuss student advocacy and concerns Brock students have regarding the OSAP changes and potential ancillary fee changes. I am looking to advocate more for students regarding affordability and access to resources to ensure students can attend post-secondary institutions without financial stress.

The following week I attended the Black Student Success Centre Welcome Bash in Jubilee Court and welcomed new students as I represented BUSU and let students know about their student union. Then I went to my first baseball game ever to watch the Blue Jays and Detroit Lions game in Toronto, this BUSU event took 280 Badgers to the game. We took a couch bus to Rogers Stadium and collected my limited edition 50th anniversary Blue Jays x BUSU hat. It was a great game and experience, unfortunately the Jays lost but overall, such a great experience and would recommend it to anyone.

Later in the week I took part in the Grape stomp on September 18th which was a lot of fun and I think every Badger should try at least once. Just make sure to bring extra clothes, especially socks!

That concludes my September Update! It has been very exciting to start this role hot doing all these events and meeting everyone who makes it possible. I look forward to sharing all my events I have planned this year to encourage student participation and empower student advocacy during this academic year.
