VPEA October Monthly Report

Hi Badgers,

I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the fall season! I am happy to share my October update with you all. October was another busy month for BUSU, with a lot of advocacy work and some exciting new opportunities.

To start the month, OUSA training started for delegates being trained on how to write and edit policy papers. The two policy papers we will be reviewing during the delegate feedback period. It was a great chance to understand the papers in depth and prepare to bring Brock students’ perspectives to the table. Following the training, the OUSA delegate feedback period began, and delegates started making suggestions to the policy papers. It was great to see so many ideas being shared, and I look forward to continuing to advocate for Brock students as the papers take shape.

I was also excited to join as a fellow on the Student Teaching and Learning Fellow an initiative that Rajiv Jhangiani is leading as a BUSU student executive. I am looking forward to what this opportunity brings and to sharing more with you as it develops. I also attended the President’s Update, where I learned about the ongoing research at Brock and the university’s goals moving forward. We also heard about new and innovative things coming to Brock that bridge the gap between education and research. It is exciting to see how Brock is investing in giving students more hands-on opportunities.

Later in the month, I attended my first meeting for the GSVFAC, where we discussed campus safety concerns, particularly at our downtown campus. Student safety is a top priority, and I am glad this conversation is happening early in the year. I will continue to bring student voices to this table. I also attended the OUSA SC meeting virtually, where we discussed the upcoming general assembly and the student advocate conference that follows it. We also began planning the second semester general assembly.

That concludes my October update! It has been a busy and rewarding month, and I am looking forward to everything coming up this year to encourage student participation and empower student advocacy. Thank you for reading, and I wish everyone a great rest of the semester and good luck on your midterms!

Thank you,

Ayo Osunade
Vice President, External Affairs
