BUSU advocates for a better, safer student experience

Brock University Students’ Union (BUSU) Vice-President, External Affairs, Alyssa Hall, and BUSU Vice-President University Affairs, Carleigh Charlton, along with six other Brock student representatives attended the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA) Fall General Assembly (GA) this past weekend

Brock University Students’ Union (BUSU) Vice-President, External Affairs, Alyssa Hall, and BUSU Vice-President University Affairs, Carleigh Charlton, along with six other Brock student representatives attended the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA) Fall General Assembly (GA) this past weekend, to advocate for a better, safer student experience for all students.

OUSA represents the interests of approximately 160,000 professional and undergraduate, full-time, and part-time university students at nine student associations across Ontario. OUSA’s approach to advocacy is based on creating substantive, student-driven, and evidence-based policy recommendations.

This semester’s OUSA GA, which took place at Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo from Oct. 26 to 29, addressed concerns related to rural and northern students, housing, transit, community development, and student health and wellness.

“I was honoured to be a part of the amazing student advocacy that happened throughout the conference weekend. I hope that by involving other Brock students in OUSA’s policy development process, they feel empowered to continue to voice their own concerns as they advocate for a better future for students across the province,” said VPEA, Alyssa Hall. “I look forward to seeing the positive changes that these policy papers inspire.”

Hall, who was a co-author for the “Student Health and Wellness” paper alongside McMaster Students’ Union Vice President Education, Abby Samuels, and BUSU Research and Policy Writer, Isabella McLaughlin, is happy to announce that this policy paper was approved by membership at the conference’s closing Plenary on Sunday.
