What is the Student Choice Initiative?

In January 2019 the Ontario provincial government passed legislation, which gives post-secondary students the choice to keep their ancillary fees that were deemed non-essential. Since 1970, the Brock University Students’ Union (or BUSU), has provided Brock students the platform to create a comprehensive experience outside the classroom. Through referendums, students have voted to pass fees that enhance your experience and opportunities at Brock, and we are asking you to Keep It Checked so we can continue to build on the amazing experience Badgers have come to know and love.

Why should you keep it checked?

BUSU works hard to deliver you an experience-first campus, through events such as Orientation Week, clubs and wellness, and even advocates for your rights as students. BUSU employs nearly 200 students, provide student government and volunteer opportunities, and run student-powered businesses with student-friendly pricing. To top it off – BUSU also administers student services like the Health & Dental plan, and Universal Bus Pass!

The legacy that has been created for you is the reason why Brock is ranked third in student satisfaction across Canada, and first in mental health services.1 For the first time in Ontario post-secondary education history, students have the choice to keep these fees that have created an experience like no other. It’s your turn to leave your mark. When you register for courses this summer, be sure to Keep It Checked for your voice, your fees and your experience.
