Welcome to Wellness Wednesday

Wellness Wednesday is a semester long initiative put on by BUSU and other Brock University departments. Wellness Wednesdays focuses on the overall health of students and community members through events, advocacy and student engagement. BUSU has continued with the 5 original pillars, they include: Mental Wellness, Physical Wellness, Emotional Wellness, Spiritual Wellness, Lifestyle Wellness & Financial Wellness.

These pillars are integral to a well-balanced and healthy lifestyle during your journey at Brock. For more information on each pillar, please click the links above to see which events are being offered by BUSU and many other campus partners committed to health and wellness. Hopefully you will find a few services and on-campus events that can help you achieve a balanced and healthy lifestyle while here at Brock. Be well BU!

Brock Sports and Recreation are offering a number of fitness classes for Wellness Wednesdays ! All students are welcome to attend any of the following classes;

Chiropractor Check Ups

Time: 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm

We are a unique chiropractic office that specializes in the correction of abnormal curvatures and poor posture. We use a technique called Chiropractic Biophysics (CBP) to achieve maximum results. We are known for our incredibly thorough exams and level of education we give our patients about their health.

Onsite, we will be providing a FREE neck and back checkup for students interested, as well as providing mini consultations and answering any questions students may have about chiropractic.

Paint Night

Currently living and working in St. Catharines, Ontario, Jenn Judson is a recent graduate of the Brock University Visual Arts department. Judson has a background in photography, textile work, collage and painting practices. The artist has exhibited at both a national and international level and continues to exhibit solo and also with her group, The Common Kiwi Art Collective. Judson enjoys sharing her love of art by instructing private painting classes in her spare time.

Wellness Pillars

Mental Wellness
The prevalence of Mental Health issues in post-secondary institutions is well documented. We have all heard the statistic that 1 in 5 students in Canada are now dealing with some form of Mental Health challenge. Whether it’s stress, anxiety, depression or any other strain on your ability to be mentally well… It is important to ask questions, seek help, and know the warning signs so you are able to spot some Mental Health challenges that other students may be facing.
Physical Wellness
The old adage, “a healthy body makes a healthy mind” is TRUE! In order to study well, you have to be sure that you are exercising at least an hour a day and eating well! This means a healthy diet, plenty of exercise AND a well-balanced diet. There are a TONNE of accessible and fun fitness programs on campus and ALL are open and no-additional charge to students!
Emotional Wellness
Emotional Wellness is not limited to how you’re feeling at this moment and time; happy, sad, mad, scared… Emotional Wellness also speaks to your support systems, relationships, family life, motivation and a number of other factors that play a huge in determining your success here at Brock. It is important to remember that although you may be in school and taking hours out of your day to cram in the library – it is equally important get out and meet new people, build new relationships and value old ones. There is a place for everyone on this campus!
Spiritual Wellness
It is important to note that although religion plays a huge role in spirituality, it is not the only mechanism of channeling your inner self. There are many ways to get in touch with your spirituality. Whether you are supporting a faith, exploring new faiths, getting in touch with your roots or joining us for a morning meditation lesson… spirituality is something that many students turn to for guidance, support and emission.
Lifestyle Wellness
Last but not least, it is important to encompass a healthy lifestyle into your holistic wellness. Albeit a more ambiguous concept, Lifestyle Wellness is equally important. Lifestyle Wellness includes everything from your daily routine, to how you cope with stress, to how clean your room is. It is impossible to be organized, healthy and successful if you are not acting as a mature adult at home! This means respecting yourself, your roommates, your neighbors and your body!
